History of Brand

Today's renowned Under Armour brand was a 'budding idea' of Kevin Plank, a 23-year-old student of University of Maryland who was dissatisfied with the excessive perspiration and discomfort always felt while sporting, in 1996. He sought to remedy this situation and the result was the Under Armour brand which has changed the way athletes dress forever. The first product of the company was the Under Armour HeatGear T-Shirt which was named #0037 and was engineered to keep athletes dry, light and cool in the hottest conditions. 

The company started out at Kevin's grandmother's basement in Washington DC and by the end of 1996, he had generated revenue of $17,000 in sales. In the subsequent year, the ColdGear fabric, which helps in cold conditions and the AllSeasonGear, which helps between the extremes, were introduced. By the close of 1998, Under Armour moved to a warehouse in Baltimore. In 2003, it introduced its women line and in 2004, it introduced the kiddies' line. 2005 saw the introduction of the Armour Golf gear and a partnership deal with the University of Maryland- the first ever!

Since its inception, Under Armour has clothed stars in award winning films like "Any Given Sunday which starred the likes of Jamie Foxx and Al Pacino, formed relationships with professional sport leagues and strategic retail partners and even adorned sport stars like future NFL Hall of famer, Ray Lewis, Olympic all time gold medalist, Michael Phelps, two-time super bowl MVP, Tom Brady and many others.
